Houston Youth Lacrosse (HYLAX)
Lamar Women’s Lacrosse partners with HYLAX for practice facilities and fields for our home games. Lamar Women’s Lacrosse does not pay HYLAX directly for the use of their facilities; instead, each of our players also registers with HYLAX and pays the HYLAX registration fee and commits to HYLAX fundraising.
HYLAX’s mission is to promote youth lacrosse and to stimulate and encourage teamwork, sportsmanship and the personal development of youth athletes. HYLAX’s focus is on supporting school teams and developing youth programs in the Houston area.
HYLAX was founded in February 2001 as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. HYLAX assisted in the creation of boys and girls lacrosse teams at Lanier, Pershing and Pin Oak middle schools, and provides clinics and an instructional league for 1st through 8th grade boys and girls. HYLAX provides field space and support for Lamar Women’s Lacrosse, Lamar Men’s Lacrosse, Hornets Girl’s Lacrosse (kindergarten through 2nd grade), Lady Hornets Lacrosse (5th through 8th grade), Hornet Boy’s Lacrosse (1st through 8th grade), and Hurricane Men’s Lacrosse.
HYLAX is a member of South Campus Sports Association, which includes the lacrosse, baseball, softball, soccer, and ancillary facilities located at the South Campus Sports Complex. Lamar Women’s Lacrosse practices and holds our home games on the lacrosse fields at South Campus Sports Complex.
Players for Lamar Women’s Lacrosse must also register with HYLAX and pay the HLAX registration fee. HYLAX registration fees for all high school players, including Lamar Women’s Lacrosse players, are $525 per year. HYLAX offers a limited number of scholarships to families in need of financial assistance with the HYLAX registration fee. In addition, Lamar Women’s Lacrosse players each commit to raise $120 through HYLAX’s “Birdies for Charity” fundraiser, or alternatively can simply pay a $120 fundraising buyout fee.
HYLAX provides practice field space for Lamar Women’s Lacrosse at St. Catherine’s Montessori School (located adjacent to South Campus Sports Complex) during the fall, and provides fields for spring practices and games at South Campus Sports Complex. In addition to providing field space painted with the appropriate lacrosse markings and scoreboard, HYLAX provides goals, practice cones, balls, scorebooks, water coolers, restrooms, game referees, pays TGHSLL dues, and reimburses Lamar Women’s Lacrosse for two tournament registration fees/year. HYLAX also provides field space for the Middle School Skills Camp sponsored by Lamar Women’s Lacrosse and has co-hosted fundraising tournaments with Lamar Women’s Lacrosse.
Will Lowe, a former board member of Lamar Women’s Lacrosse, is a board member and officer (Vice President) of HYLAX.
